Sakura Haruno fic recs: ANBU
AHHHH!!!! I love ANBU fics, especially when they involve Sakura. It was such a cool concept, which was unfortunately never fully expanded upon. However, our lack of knowledge regarding the shadow corps allows for some really cool fic ideas since authors can take creative liberty on the structure and workings of the division.
In my opinion, Sakura had the most potential out of team 7 to join ANBU (at least more than Naruto). It's all about being discreet and efficient and although she wasn't strong during og, she possessed abilities that would be valuable for this. Her clever mind, chakra control, and genjutsu potential would've made her a good fit. Naruto was too flamboyant and Sasuke was too reckless and cocky, but this is just my take. However, with her new skill set from her training with Tsunade, I don't think she would be able to go down that path anymore.

note: feel free to check out my master list which has a bunch of Sakura Haruno fic recs (all organized)!
----
Masks by mads999 || ao3 || kakasaku || E || canon divergent || complete
1. Sakura's Inner is far more diabolical than anyone ever expected 2. Crows prove to be cruel mentors 3. Sakura comes to learn exactly how much she hates Kakashi (as well as how alike they are, in the most terrible of ways)
Kakashi is a hateful turd and Sakura is spiteful! I hate this ship and I'm not a big fan of Kakashi here, but boy is this fic good. One of the best character developments I've read for Sakura and she certainly becomes of force to be reconned with. The ANBU lore in Masks is absolutely phenomenal and I love the whole system that is put into place as it adds for some drama (lol). Also, can we talk about how awesome crow summons are????
.
Five Kingdoms for the Dead - Evil Is A Relative Term || ffn || M || canon divergence || complete
After the Forest of Death, Sakura comes to realize that being weak is no longer an option. However, she finds that change is sometimes painful and that truth doesn't always come easy. Luckily, she'll have some help along the way.
It's been a while since I've read Five Kingdoms for the Dead, but I just remember it being absolutely great! I'll be honest, I found a lot of the mind stuff pretty confusing at times, but it was still enjoyable. Also, some great characters are utilized in this fic such as Neji, Sai, and Itachi. Makes me really wish that we saw more of Sakura and Neji working together in Naruto since I think they compliment each other quite well.
.
Trials of Change - Espoiretreves || ao3 || gen || time travel AU || complete
Haruno Sakura made a promise. Looking in the eyes of her Shisou and the reanimated Hokage, she took on the most important mission of her life. Go back in time and try to prevent the 4th Shinobi War. Now, Sakura is back to her 5-year-old body, with all the knowledge and haunting memories of the future. She vows to keep her precious people safe and stop certain events from happening, without altering the timeline too much. The trials her emotions and logic put her through have her questioning her very existence, but for the sake of peace, she has to push forward. No matter what.
Trials of Change is actually apart of a time travel series and I have to say that it is probably one of the best of the genre! Now, Sakura is not in ANBU here, but she works very closely with team Ro (Kakashi's ANBU team) and it's a huge part of the story, so I'm choosing to count it anyway. I really adore all of the worldbuilding and backstories going on here in addition to the fact that there are breaks. Yes, the story keeps moving, but there are other things going on, like playdates, and not just Sakura trying to save the world. Also, if you love Shisui then definitely check this out since he has a huge role and his and Sakura's friendship is just so precious.
.
bite me and see, said the fly to the spider - MirrorImage003 || ao3 || itasaku || T || non-massacre AU || ongoing
In which Sakura is not initially a part of Team 7. In which she wears her failures like armor and brandishes her fears like her most trusted weapons. In which I do what hundreds of other authors have done before me, and rewrite Sakura's story. Non-massacre AU. Canon Divergent. Slow-burn.
After Sakura's first team, consisting of the graduating class's "expendables," dies, she joins team 7 and faces backlash along her shinobi journey. Sakura doesn't join ANBU until the later chapters so fair warning that there isn't too much content in that regards (unless it updates). Nonetheless, Sakura views ANBU as vital to her career as it offers her the highest clearance she can get. Gaining her opportunities for information her civilian-born status didn't allow her privy to.
.
The Sixth Shadow - thinknicht || ao3 || kakasaku || M || canon divergent - eventual time travel AU || ongoing
No one seemed to find it odd when little Haruno Sakura threw herself smack dab in front of a Chidori and Rasengan. Not even Kakashi stopped to wonder.(He really should have.)
The story of how Sakura came to be the sixth hogake despite all of the challenges thrown her way. I especially love Sakura's drive in addition to the political aspects. However, be warned that Kakashi is an absolute HATER (in the beginning), but he gets better! The Sixth Shadow is extremely long and I only just recently got to Sakura's introduction to ANBU, so I can't say too much in that regard.
.
Daughter of Fire - justjstuff || ao3 || kakasaku || E || canon divergence || incomplete (maybe ongoing)
Sakura got up and didn’t bother brushing the dirt from her dress. She had a feeling she was about to get even dirtier. She looked at the memorial stone one last time, memorizing the characters without even realizing she was doing it. It would serve from that moment on as a reminder of her determination. She wouldn’t let Naruto and Sasuke join the names carved on that stone. That was her nindo.
Sakura's growth throughout Daughter of Fire is great and realistic all while pointing out aspects from the original series which were flawed and dare I say misogynistic. I struggled a bit in the beginning to justify her abilities, but overall the story is really well done and the ANBU aspects are quite intriguing.
.
cut the head off the snake - itsthechocopuff || ao3 || T || time travel AU || complete
when eighteen-year-old, post-war Sakura is thrown back into her tiny, pre-Academy body, she makes a decision. she'd had a childhood once already, and this time, she's more interested in Not Dying when the inevitable shit hits the proverbial fan. so she will work harder, care less, kill more, and smile when she's done.and hey, if she ends up reviving an extinct nature transformation to attract the most corrupt, power-hungry man from her timeline, all the better for her, right?
Such a unique take on a time travel AU and Cut the Head Off the Snake executes it perfectly. Sakura decides that her first order of business is to infiltrate ROOT and that's exactly what she does. Sai, Shin, and Shisui are all great characters and team Ro is present as well. Very good!
.
Flowers - Idunmy || ao3 || E || kakasaku || canon divergence || ongoing
Flowers only bloom just before they wilt When Sakura loses her fight against Ino in her Chuunin exams, she questions her ability to ever become a kunoichi, too weak to protect herself, let alone her village One wrongful promotion later and Sakura gets a second chance in the shape of a mysterious new teacher who against all odds is willing to put her faith in a young girl with potential and a willingness to fight. Or- a fix-it inspired fic where Sakura grows to be the powerhouse she was destined to become.
Flowers is a newer series (which has recent updates) and I love it! Critiques are made towards the medical ninja training, which I believe needed to be discussed and it's refreshing to see. In most ANBU fics I've read, Sakura is immediately put onto the strongest team, but here it's a bit different. She begins on a demolition squad, which not only suits her skill set quite well, but is a realistic approach to how she would be introduced to the corps. Anyway, it's one of my favorite reads at the moment and I really like where the story is going.
.
names. - waterpllar || ao3 || T || gen || canon divergence || complete
There are no names or faces in ANBU. Everything is designed to be strictly formal, efficient and professional. A recently orphaned Sakura, however, learns that some regulations aren't meant to be followed, and finds a place in Team Ro after being shunned from her former teammates. (fic prompt from anon on tumblr: orphaned sakura in anbu with yamato, genma, and team ro.)
AHHHH poor Sakura. After her parents' death Sakura seeks Tsunade's help out of desperation to become useful. Under recommendation, Sakura's new goal is to make it into ANBU.
.
Equinox - FM_White || ao3 || itasaku || M || anbu AU || complete
ItaSaku (Post Uchiha Massacre) AU: Climbing through the ranks of Konoha, Sakura finds herself with the invitation to join ANBU and a chance to learn from one of the most renowned and legendary ninja in the world. Despite her efforts to grow stronger however, she finds the world isn't as black and white as it looks and that some truths are easier to hide than others.
I don't remember Equinox very well, but I love most works by this author sooo. Anyway, Itachi stays in Konoha and instead it's Sasuke that goes rougue. Sakura, Naruto, and Shikamaru are newly joined ANBU members and all placed on a team with Itachi and things go from there.
.
stars in our eyes as we dream of the heavens (the gods walk among us, sweet child, do not forget) - snickiebear || ao3 || kakasaku || T || age-swap AU || oneshot complete
“Kakashi-sensei,” Naruto whispered, staring at his teacher, horror plain on his face. “You’re married?” Lazily, Kakashi looked down at his gloveless hand where his ring rested, “It would appear so.”
Sakura is born in the same generation as Kakashi and turns out as a badass ANBU married to him. This is super wholesome as it's a lot of the two of them bonding with Kakashi's genin team (Sai makes three) in an effort to help them out. It's a series so you can read more of the events taking place prior to the fic.
.
Anachronistic Drift - Elesrea || ffn || gen || T || time travel AU || incomplete
Her plan was flawless. Save Shisui. Save the world. Time-travel, Sakura-centric AU
Sakura spends years training to be sent back in time and save the world from Sasuke. She isn't in ANBU, but rather poses as one in order to keep an anonymous status on her doings both in and out of the village.
.
Sakura - lilac haze || ffn/ao3 || M || minasaku || time travel AU || complete
AU. Non-Canon. Time Travel. Please see inside for full warnings. Cross posted on Ao3. On his deathbed he was granted eternal peace and place to rest for all of time. Of course that was not appealing to him. Ever unpredictable to the end he had a counter offer. One that the Sage had to consider. In which Sakura's going to have a rough time. A really rough time.
Sakura is probably one of my all time favorite fics because the emotions are just spectacular. The story is pretty heavy on ANBU and ROOT aspects, which I always enjoy, but I wouldn't say it's a major focus. However, there is an emphasis on the unfair treatment towards kunoichi. Anyway, the characterizations and storytelling are beautifully done. Please share this author some love.
Check TWs before hand!!

Melancholy II
Kakashi Hatake x wife reader
Synopsis: To learn to overcome the loss of your child, you and Kakashi went through challenges, and it certainly wasn't easy at all. The tragedy harbored bad feelings in your family, and you two tried not to let it affect your sons. But now, with the discovery of a fourth pregnancy, things can change again - for better or worse
Warnings: trauma, mention of misscariage, mention of depression, labor pain, argment, intimacy, kiss.
Words: 5.3k
Observation: Happy ending - part I here
The hot summer breeze made your hair sway along with the loose leaves of the trees, revealing your serene and concentrated face. Kakashi admired the beauty you exuded while he was looking from afar, not having the courage to go up to you, at least not where you were now. If you were in any other environment, he would definitely meet you and give you all the praise you deserve. But he preferred to walk away.
You were kneeling in front of your child's grave with your youngest son Kenji, both clasping your hands in prayer as you meditated. The boy always insisted on accompanying you during your monthly visits to the cemetery, helping you put new flowers and clean the place.
He always finished his meditation first, but he didn't dare get up until you finished too. Sitting still was difficult for a child, you know, and so his effort to remain patient was all the sweeter in your eyes.
After a brief five minutes, you had no more prayers to say and opened your eyes to see him transfixed on the name written on the tombstone: Satoru.
That same year you lost the baby, Kakashi advised you not to find out the sex of the child, but you were stubborn and asked Sakura anyway. You weren't even sure if it would be possible to find that out, as you didn't know if your pregnancy was advanced enough to reveal such a thing. But asking doesn't cost anything, does it? And then she told you it was going to be another boy. It was even a little comical, it seemed like you were destined to be the mother of boys, and after that you couldn't help but name him. You imagined what his little face would look like, you dreamed about him, wishing he was more than a fantasy.
What would his personality be like? How would his voice sound? Will you finally have a child that looks like you? Your husband was lucky, both of your children were perfect copies of him. What's the use of carrying a baby for 9 months and being betrayed like that by genetics? How unfair. Maybe that's why they say not to name dead babies, to go on in the void and forget, but you didn't like the feeling. Forgetting felt wrong.
Kakashi didn't want you to get attached to a child you've never even met, he said it would only make you suffer further. And for a while it felt like it was all about you, and only you. But you weren't silly, he was ashamed to admit that he was afraid of suffering from that too, of getting attached. Your husband was afraid that he wouldn't be able to move on, that it would haunt you both forever. Time heals all, isn't that what people say? Didn't he once tell you that you guys would get over it? So why weren't you getting over it?
Of course, after a while the pain got easier to deal with, but it was still there. And you constantly missed something, someone. Your family seemed incomplete.
He didn't get mad when you went after finding out the sex of the child, and he didn't fight when you gave him a name, but he was furious when you said you wanted to make a grave.
Spring - 1 year and 8 months ago:
You were cleaning the kitchen with Katsuo when the argument with your husband started. There was tension after the two of you exchanged some dangerous words, nothing had really gotten serious yet, but your eldest decided to immediately drop the uncompleted work and leave the room. He didn't even bother to excuse himself, just wanting to leave as soon as possible.
"That's enough for me!" He got up from the table abruptly "I tried, at all times, to understand you. I also suffered from this!" You remembered the conversation you had with him the day you cried together in the hallway, the way you found him, totally in pieces. Like you. "And all I wanted was for you to try to understand me too!" he spoke in a serious tone, but never shouting "But you just decide you want to make a grave, when I've told you countless times to keep it anonymous!"
Even when angry, your husband was calm. He was obviously exhausted, but there were no signs of violence there. You wondered how anyone could be so passive. If anyone else saw how Kakashi treated his family and friends, they would never believe that he really is the ninja of rumors. The man who defeated Zabuza Momochi, who fought Obito Uchiha - the fearsome Copy Ninja.
"Do you really want to immortalize this suffering by carving it into a stone?!" you listened silently for the moment, having already set the dishes aside in the sink and getting the reaction you feared he would have before telling him your pitiful wish "I already have too many people to visit the cemetery, Y/n..." His voice cracked for a moment making you shiver "Please, don't give me another one."
Your heart broke into little pieces. That was what you needed to realize how much distress you were causing him, that you were acting like a monster with the man who had never done anything but be good to you. Because that's what you were being, isn't it? A monstrous one. But not in a thousand years would Kakashi see you that way, he wasn't able to read your thoughts to tell that you weren't a bad person like you thought. He couldn't compare his pain to yours, having closely followed your suffering beyond emotional, physical. He just didn't know how to deal with what you were asking him to do.
"You don't need to visit…" you spoke softly hoping that the situation would work out for the two of you. The last few months were the worst of your life, you felt a need all the time, a need to fill a void. You feared that you were slipping into depression, but you tried not to let yourself get bogged down in those emotions.
"Stop being selfish!" Kakashi finally exploded, in a tone you've never heard him speak, abandoning his calm posture. He regretted it as soon as he said the cruel words. His wife wasn't a selfish person, far from it, you were the most selfless person he has met.
You felt your throat close, as if you were going to choke, and your eyes burning with an imminent urge to cry. But you can't cry, if you cry, Kakashi will be destroyed.
"I-" you were interrupted by a whimper in the distance, feeling stupid for having forgotten that Katsuo and Kenji were at home, clearly hearing the argument. If making you cry was bad, making your kids cry would affect him twice as hard.
A very heavy aura hung over the residence, what the hell was going on with you two? You and your husband weren't a bickering couple, in fact, you were the complete opposite of that. It happened at times that you blurted out hostility in the presence of the children, and on those few occasions you noticed that small things were enough to frighten the boys, used to the fact that their parents rarely fought.
Only this time it was serious, and to top it all off, the one screaming was their father. How could they not be scared? Kakashi never raised his voice even to correct them, and now he looked very angry. From you?
You abandoned your discussion and left him alone in the kitchen to check which of the boys was crying, and when you arrived in the living room you discovered that it was Kenji.
"Mommy..." The child sobbed your name when he saw you and you took him to comfort. He buried his face in the crook of your neck and gripped the fabric of your clothing tightly - shivering.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry." you rubbed your hand on his back, sliding it up and down in an attempt to soothe him. "It's going to be okay. Shh..."
You shivered as you saw the guilty look on Kakashi's face as he froze in the middle of the room. He must have followed you, and you felt so ashamed of having caused all this that you couldn't stand to stay there any longer, going up the stairs with Kenji in your arms to escape from his eyes.
Katsuo was already a little older, he understood what was going on between his parents, both you and your husband knew about it. From your shared room, even with your son still crying, you could hear a door slamming loudly in the hallway and Katsuo yelling at Kakashi.
You hated to fight, Katsuo hated to see you fight. But for some reason it kept repeating itself.
Kakashi entered the room after a few minutes, skittish as a cat and hearing Kenji sniffle clinging to you.
"Shh" You kept whispering in his ear while singing a lullaby, rocking him, and the boy called to you softly repeatedly, pleading.
You were surprised to notice that Kakashi was already right next to you at the end of the bed, he put his hand on your son's back to get his attention, but that made him cringe and bury his face even more in you.
"Kenji." Kakashi called after him, surprised that his son was trying to avoid him.
"Honey, daddy is talking." you tried to intervene.
"I don't want you to fight..." he said, suddenly crying loudly when he remembered the two of you arguing a few minutes ago.
"Let's not fight anymore" your husband smoothed his hair as he still refused to show his face to his father "I promise." Kakashi looked at his wife in anticipation that you would help him convince the child.
"It's true, little angel."
And really, you never fought again. But instead, uncomfortable moments of silence began to plague you and him too often, preferring to remain silent when you realized that the situation could lead to a fight. And this has affected your communication with your husband, making the two of you more distant.
.
Now it's been two years. After that day Kakashi made your son's grave without you even knowing, maybe trying to redeem himself for something that wasn't his fault. You had completely dropped the idea and didn't expect you guys to talk about it again.
You didn't know if surprise was the exact word you were looking for to describe what you felt, but it probably came closest. Imagine your amazement: you were at the Memorial Stone, getting ready to leave after visiting all the deceased relatives and friends on a Sunday, when he told you there was still one person missing. He showed you the way and you were moved to see the name written on the tombstone. That was the last time he was there, after which you never saw him there again. But Kakashi made sure to memorize your reaction that day, you looked amazed.
Breaking out of your thoughts, you smiled at Kenji who was still focused on the carved letters and gave his chubby cheek a kiss to get the youngster's attention.
"Let's visit Grandpa Sakumo's sepulcher." you took his hand, which was much smaller than yours, going to your father-in-law's tomb.
You didn't know Kakashi's father, but from the stories you heard your husband tell the boys, he was an honorable man. He never avoided telling his children about the shinobi's tragic end, as he thought it was important that they have a reference of strong values when they become ninja too.
Your eldest son was not so childish anymore, although he was still a child. But with only 10 he had already developed an unshakable sense of justice, which perhaps neither you or Kakashi could mold so easily anymore. He would certainly be a man of good character, just as you would expect Kenji to be too.
"Katsuo is here, Mom! Look." Kenji shook your hands together excitedly when he found his brother already meditating at Sakumo's grave, he probably visited the Memorial Stone with his father first and then came here. Kakashi could spend hours in that part of the cemetery, sometimes coming in the middle of the week, just to stare at the names of his two former companions - Obito and Rin.
"Be silent so as not to interrupt him." You said gently, motioning with your fingers for him to keep quiet and the three of you ended up going home without Kakashi.
"Thanks for the food, Mom." Katsuo thanked you as he removed his nearly full plate from the table.
"You bad ate."
You decided to start dinner when the clock showed that your husband was already 1 hour late, which was unusual, at least not without letting you know. You thought that something unforeseen arose in the Hokage's office. Things have been crazy lately, everyone running out of time to prepare for Naruto's inauguration ceremony as Nanadaime. But the news was encouraging, for you mainly because it meant he would be spending more time at home.
"I'm not hungry." he said in a despondent tone, going upstairs and locking the bedroom door. He always acted like this after visits, and the reason was you. He didn't want you to visit Satoru, interpreting that he was the reason you've been so bad these last few years. And no matter how many times you told him that it wasn't anyone's fault and that visiting the place didn't hurt you, he was still young to understand.
"Can I have his dango?" Kenji asked making you sigh, everything was going so well for a peaceful day.
You suddenly felt like throwing up, bile rising in your throat catching you off guard. You immediately ran to the bathroom and emptied everything into the toilet, nearly spilling your guts out. You sat down on the floor and took a breath, feeling more dizzy for having bent down so quickly, making you break out in a cold sweat.
"Mom, are you ok?" Kenji stopped at the entrance to the room.
"I just got sick all of a sudden, it'll pass." you both heard the front door open.
"Kakashi?" you shouted his name from the bathroom, finding it irregular that he didn't announce his arrival.
"It's me, I'm home." Kenji dashed off to meet him, completely forgetting about you. Daddy's boy, you thought jealously of his preference for the father.
"Daddy, you missed dinner." your child said as you brushed your teeth to get the bitter taste off tongue.
"Oh yeah? You didn't eat mine, you sweet tooth?" you heard your husband's muffled voice in the bathroom playing with him. If you hadn't experienced it three times before, you'd try to convince yourself that it was a bad thing caused by spoiled food, but there's no use denying it, you know the symptoms all too well.
When you felt that you were discouraged, you sought out Sakura as quickly as possible, trying to be more thorough. You only trusted her, knowing well how skilled the kunoichi was. Well, you wasn't sure how far along you were, although Sakura had tried to give you a more accurate diagnosis, even that you weren't tracking your cycles accurately either. But you'd venture to say it was the start of the second trimester.
You haven't imagined yourself pregnant again, in fact you haven't imagined yourself like this since you gave birth for the second time. You feared losing that child too, a fear you didn't feel with Katsuo and Kenji. You sure turned into a chicken.
You didn't even want to think about the impact this baby would have on you before and after birth, it could be negative or positive. Would this child fill your void? Would you be substituting one child for another? Would that be cruelty? You asked yourself so many questions, but you forced your brain to relax, reminding yourself to remain calm for the sake of the baby in your belly.
In your first two pregnancies, you only had positive thoughts. You weren't nervous about the birth, although some women in the village tried to scare you, and you were fascinated by the idea of becoming a mother. You and Kakashi were so happy, and now you would too. No matter the future, no matter the others, you would only have good thoughts and that new child would be born strong and healthy. This baby would be wanted, if only by you.
You've settled Kenji into his bed, adjusting the blankets so he doesn't feel hot at night. You said goodnight and closed the door to his room, leaving a gap for light from the hallway to enter the room. You knocked on Katsuo's door and tried to talk to him, but the boy just shouted good night to you, not bothering to come and open the door. Kakashi was still downstairs and it was late, so you took the opportunity to go talk to him. Night shifts were one of the only times you and your husband could talk alone.
"Everything is good?" you asked when you saw him sprawled on the couch. Most of the lights were already off, except for the hallway light and a few lightbulbs around the house.
"I thought you were already asleep." He said surprised to see you still walking around the house.
You walked further into the room and made a sign that you were going to join him on the couch, so Kakashi raised an arm to welcome you beside him. You laid back and rested your head on the ninja's chest, hugging his torso as he lowered his arm to rest on your waist.
After a while just smelling the fabric softener of his shirt that you washed, you moved and placed a kiss on his exposed neck, climbing into his lap to kiss his lips next.
Kakashi loved those moments with you, because they were rare, the main culprit being his work. So when it happened he felt like he was in heaven. Your mouth was soft, sweet and the man's lips fit yours like a glove, but he gently pulled you away before the kiss got deeper.
"Not here." Kakashi didn't like being so intimate with you outside the bedroom, embarrassed that the boys would catch you. Even an innocent kiss made him uncomfortable, and you respected his space even though you had no intention of taking things to another level right now.
And it was funny to see him feel uncomfortable with things like that, considering he's the biggest fan of an erotic book series. Once Katsuo almost got you in the bathroom and Kakashi spent the whole week avoiding touching you, even when you were alone, like it was some kind of crime.
"I need to talk to you." you said getting off him.
"About...?"
"I'm Pregnant." you said bluntly, feeling him tense up. His heartbeat skipped a beat, coming back slow and then speeding up a little.
"Do you think or-"
"I'm sure." you lifted your head to look into his eyes and realized he was staring at the floor in confusion. You placed a hand on his cheek, drawing your husband's attention to you.
"I don't know how long, but I think it's well underway." you two were silent for a few seconds, but it felt like an eternity "Kakashi, I think I'm past the third month."
He felt more hopeful, knowing full well the importance of yout last sentence.
"Darling..." you were going to continue talking when you saw him gulping, but he grabbed you by wrapping both arms around his wife.
"I understood." he rested his lips in her hair, enjoying the comfort of the hug "When did you find out?"
"Last week." He immediately broke the hug.
"Why did you wait so long to tell me?"
"I was trying to work up the courage..." you were sincere "you want this child, don't you?"
"You shouldn't even consider thinking such a thing. Of course I want to." he said kind of scolding you "Why would you think I don't?"
That would be the conversation you probably would have had with him years ago, if you had the chance to sit down with him and tell about the pregnancy in those days.
"I don't know. I think it's because we never planned a third child." you moved from him to the other side of the couch to talk more seriously "With Kenji and Katsuo it was different."
"You shouldn't worry about me, you know I would never reject our child." he straightened up, coming out of the relaxed position he'd been in before, feeling a flicker of doubt about your trust in him "You know that, don't you?"
"I know you, I know the type of man you are..." you played with your hands trying to relax "But I can't help but get nervous, everything seems to scare me lately." He noticed your hands moving frantically and wrapped his in hers.
"You are my wife; you are the mother of my two children. We have been married for 11 years, I would never abandon you, or abandon a child just because it was not planned." he stopped talking, wondering if he should tell you the next part "Sometimes I think about Satoru, and I wish he were with us." He added and you widened your eyes, Kakashi had never called the baby by name. In fact, he never spoke to you about him unless necessary or in discussions. "Do you think I wished him dead?" Kakashi asked afraid of her answer.
But what? Kakashi thought so? You would never connect his desire to leave the baby incognito with something so cruel and obscure, you understood perfectly well why he didn't want to name him. You always understood.
"Never." you turned desperately to your husband stroking his hands. "I never thought that of you, Kakashi." You shed thick tears and sank your body into his, wanting to stay there forever. Safe and comfortable in his arms.
"Please, do not cry." he asked you "I'm going to take care of you; I'm going to take care of this baby. It's going to be okay."
You would venture to say that this was your smoothest pregnancy. You didn't have to deal with jealous of any of the boys, and Kakashi was more present, not being Hokage anymore. It was just wonderful, like a dream. You sometimes feared that everything would start to fall apart, because it was too good to be true. It was strange that after so long drowning in grief, things could be starting to turn around again. Your family was getting back to normal.
In the 8th month, your water broke. It was early for delivery and you just freaked out. What if something is wrong? Kakashi was calm, knowing that a baby being born at the 8th wasn't that dangerous, but you couldn't stay calm at all. When Sakura finally came to your rescue, you felt more relieved after she confirmed what Kakashi told you about you being on time, trusting her while you screamed in pain from the contractions.
"The boys were born a week late, remember?" your husband tried to strike up a conversation with you to distract you
If you said you remembered, it would be a lie. Kakashi kept that information for that long? How was it possible that he remembered and you didn't? But soon his thoughts were interrupted by another wave of pain, which made him feel sorry for you for having to go through this.
"Soon our baby will be here with us." He said wiping the sweat off your forehead "It'll pass soon"
No, I won't go soon. And you both knew it, but you let yourself be trusted by him. After an 11-hour delivery you heard a baby crying loudly. The burning sensation occurred in the child's body because pulling air into lungs for the first time made the kid scream, just like every baby when it is born. Those outside the hospital room heard it too, announcing that you had managed to bring your child into the world. You can finally rest, sweaty from the effort it took to push. Your body was all asleep, but you just wanted to hold your newborn right now.
Sakura handed the baby into Kakashi's arms after he cut the umbilical cord, and then brought him close to you.
"It's a girl, Kakashi-sama." you cried with happiness when you heard that. You were the mother of a little girl.
Kakashi carefully placed her in your arms, seeing that you were still weak and might not be able to support your weight. But he noticed that his daughter was so small and so light that even the wind could carry her.
"She is a very strong and healthy girl. Congratulations to you both!" Sakura said happy for you, finding the sight of you holding a baby comforting, reminding her of holding Sarada for the first time.
"Why is she so small?" Kakashi asked her as you admired the blurry features of the child in your arms.
"Oh, she just is." Sakura replied nonchalantly, making Kakashi relax "I'm sure she'll grow up as strong as her brothers. But I'll leave you alone now." The woman left the room after collecting some objects and finishing filling out a hospital form.
You had finally realized that she was very close with her father, yet another clone of Kakashi for your misfortune. But you couldn't wait for her hair to stay long, just to spend hours combing it. You wanted her to stay that way, a little baby forever, but at the same time you yearned for her to grow up. You would wait for the day when you could finally share secrets with her, gossip and try on clothes until you drop. You loved your two boys with all of your being, you'd die for either of them, but having a girl felt different. Maybe it was because you dreamed about it for a long time, you didn't know how to explain it, but you already felt the need to develop her from everything and everyone. She was so delicate and cute, you were afraid she would break like porcelain.
Kakashi noticed the expressions you made while admiring your daughter, you practically beamed with how happy you were, and he hasn't seen you like this in a long time.
"You want to meet your little brothers, hmm?" You asked your daughter who made typical baby noises, knowing she wasn't going to answer. Your husband took this as a cue to go get the boys who were under Hinata's watch in the hospital waiting room. She really helped you a lot, both in the past and now. You would make sure that you thank her properly and that you can repay all of her help one day.
"It's a girl." Kakashi told his friends who were in the waiting room a few minutes ago and everyone started to congratulate him. "Thanks for coming over here."
"When can we see her, Kakashi?" Guy asked his friend.
"Yes! Kakashi-sama, I want to see her too!" Ino begged excitedly to see the baby. She was passing by to see Sakura at the hospital when she heard you were here and couldn't resist waiting to see the baby when was born.
"I'll take the boys now, but soon you'll be able to see them, I promise."Kakashi told Ino and everyone else who was present. He put his hand behind his neck to ease the tension and tiredness and then he picked up the children who were half asleep from waiting so long. He thanked Hinata briefly, who told him that soon Naruto would come too, and headed to the bedroom with his sons. "When you enter, be quiet" he told both of them when they arrived at the door.
"Yes Daddy!" Kenji responded by rubbing his hand over his mouth as if he were zipping up.
"Let's go!" Katsuo pulled his father anxious to see his sister.
"Hey, calm down."
Upon opening the bedroom door, Kenji completely forgot to be silent and made a fuss, shouting excitedly to see you after so many hours. The baby started crying over the noise, and Kakashi scolded himself for being so sloppy with the youngest. But you didn't seem to care about the situation, in fact, the boy's enthusiasm rubbed off on you as you tried to get the baby calm again.
Kakashi took Kenji on his arms and carefully approached him by your side on the bed when he saw that he was trying to climb up, but he couldn't win due to his low height. Katsuo ran to stay on the other side and they both knew to admire their little sister.
"Why is her face so weird?" Kenji as usual had no filter.
"She was just born." you told him sympathetically and they expected to pepper you with questions about her, coming one after another like a train.
"Boys, slow down." he warned the boys "your mother is tired."
"Sorry, Mommy."
"All good." you looked at Katsuo who was sitting on the bed with you "Want to hold her?"Even though he was big, Kakashi didn't feel confident letting his son hold the baby.
"Y/n..." he was going to try to tell you that Katsuo was still too young to hold his sister.
"It's okay, Kakashi." you tried to reassure him "He won't put her down, kids younger than he babysit."
You pulled Katsuo closer to you, instructing him on what to do to hold the girl. You stayed alert and put an arm around the boy to prevent him from ending up knocking her over.
"I want to hold too."
"Not you, you little dwarf." Kakashi immediately intervened, leaving no chance for the 6 year old to consider holding the baby. You sighed at his attitude of not trusting boys.
"What is her name?" Katsuo asked you as soon as he held his sister.
"Do you want to name her?" you made an offer.
"Sayuri!" Kenji shouted, excited to be able to choose the baby's name
"What?! Where did you get that horrible name?" You see they were going to start arguing about which name to choose and immediately regretted it "It's going to be Misaki.
"You're just saying that because it's the name of the girl you like!" In fact, Kenji was quite the gossip. You didn't even know about this girl.
"The girl you like, is it?" Kakashi teased his son by ruffling his hair and making the boy blush.
"Kakashi!" You warned him to stop teasing a child. "How do you end up knowing so much stuff, you little brat?" You asked Kenji pulling his nose playfully, which made him laugh.
"What do you think of the name Rin?" Kakashi asked you suddenly, worried about your reaction.
"Rin? Like Daddy's friend?" Katsuo asked confused.
"If you don't mind, of course." He added to you expectantly
"Rin..." You repeated the name, testing how it sounded "Sounds good." you said smiling, knowing how much that meant to him. You know how much Kakashi feels guilty for her death, they were just kids at the time and they had to go through so much.
"I liked too." Kenji said taking you by surprise.
"Snow!" Katsuo said excitedly as he looked at the window behind
It messed you up, you lost your last baby on a winter night. And the season that already showed sadness, despite its built-in beauty, had become even sadder with the memory of your son. But now your little girl has come to give the season a new meaning, a good one.
You looked at the little girl again, taking her out of Katsuo's arms to let him run to the window with his brother to watch the first snowflakes fall. You let the baby girl play with your index finger, grabbing it with her chubby little hands.
Kakashi who came down beside you kissed his daughter's forehead and then your temple.
"I love you."
That was the first time in years he said he loved you verbally.
"You and they are the light of my life." He brushed a few strands of hair off your face, "I couldn't have asked for anything better."
"Thanks, Kakashi." If you were already crying rivers of joy at the birth of your daughter, he just made you cry an ocean. He didn't need you to say you loved him back, having heard you say it many times already.

ello jitter !! 12, 15, 16 and 19 :)
hiiii kyro!
putting this under the cut cause it’s a long one
12. the unpopular character that you actually like and why more people should like them
i feel like i could put quite a few characters here tbh it’s hard to pick. i’m at a tossup between saying obito (extremely hated but does certainly have a group of fans) or shino (forgotten by everyone but 5 people). they are two different types of unpopular. i feel like all my mutuals hate obito though so let me (sloppily, lazily) make my case
1. he is an uchiha
2. groomed and manipulated immediately coming out of an insanely traumatic experience (flat fuck friday) when he is most vulnerable
3. on a team with kakashi and minato (worst thing that happened to him)
4. in his groomed and manipulated mind he did think that he was doing good and solving pointless shinobi death and war.. was bad but is an interesting concept
5. not to point out madara literally put a seal over his heart and as soon as it was broken and he had his faults pointed out to him he changed his ways and realized what he was doing was Bad
6. tobi is silly, obito acting as madara acting as tobi
7. leader of the akatsuki, a based group
8. i do actually find it quite interesting that he shows a different aspect to how it can be to be groomed than to how sasuke or itachi show it. groomed kids aren’t always plotting revenge against the groomer or doing what needs to be done but “protecting”” what’s most important. sometimes groomed kids will wholly believe in what their groomer has created and will carry that on. it’s just an interesting perspective to me.
9. torments kakashi #deserved
10. he is an uchiha
15. that one thing you see in fanart all the time
before i answer the real question that fanart of tobirama riding a bike with his dick print front and centre haunts me
smth i see all the time tho….. mmm i’m sure there’s something more bothersome to me but why are there so many people drawing gaara as if the black around his eyes is eyeliner. as if it wasn’t stated it’s eyebags because he doesn’t sleep so he can keep control of shukaku. also every modern au fashion style for itachi. i can’t decide what his style is but none of that is certainly it. it all irks me.
16. you can’t understand why so many people like this thing (characterization, trope, headcanon, ect)
i hateeeee the ‘naruto is a sunshine boy’ characterizationnnnnnnn he’s literally so mean to people all the time. sure he’s optimistic and is very friendly but when people always depict him as a solely kind and gentle and ‘pure sunshine’ it makes me dance with the block button. when a chararacter is sun coded and they’re happy-go-lucky, radiating kindness <<<<< when a character is sun coded and burns so bright and hot you need protection and cover because he’s dangerous and a spitfire
19. you’re mad/ashamed/horrified you actually like
see if you asked me this months ago it would have been a simple itachi but unfortunately i have grown to accept that part of me. so i will say the war arc #sorry i just really like the bijuu and obito is there a lot so i cannot help it. don’t get me wrong it’s not good but i have a very soft place in my heart for it
#someday i’ll write out an actual post about obito#but that day is not yet here#asks#kyghostly#jitter bugs u

Naruto Whumptober 2024 Masterlist
Day 1: Race Against the Clock | Panic Attack -- Kakashi & Team 7
The rooftop fell silent, but Kakashi could hear his own heartbeat thundering in his ears, smelled the lingering singe of lightning, and he suddenly he couldn’t breathe. He couldn’t—his lungs wouldn’t work, too heavy, weighed down, like they were being crushed--
Day 2: Trust Issues -- Naruto & Team 7
“Are you going to try to kill me, too?” Naruto asked, blunt enough that it actually made Hatake rear back.
Day 3: Set Up for Failure -- Tobirama (Madara/Tobirama)
A number of things suddenly clicked into place. Most importantly: Tobirama had been sent—exhausted, drained, with limited supplies and no backup—through Uchiha land. On purpose. Because he was expendable.
Day 4: Hallucinations | "You're still alive in my head." -- Kakashi (Kakashi/Obito)
Kakashi had dreamt of him frequently in the months after the Kannabi Bridge incident, but it wasn’t until Rin’s death that Obito seemed to escape from Kakashi’s dreams, haunting him in the waking world as well.
Day 5: Sunburn -- Sakura (pre-Sakura/Sasori)
Day 6: Not Realizing They're Injured | Unhealthy Coping Mechanisms | Healed Wrong | "It's not my blood." -- Tobirama (pre-Madara/Tobirama)
Day 7: Unconventional Weapon -- Sakura (ft. Itachi)
Day 8: Sleep Deprivation | "Leave the lights on." -- Sasuke (ft. Orochimaru)
“You will adapt, or you won’t,” Orochimaru had said, his smile sharp and empty and every bit as cold as the air in the lab. “But remember, you are only useful to me if you succeed.”
Day 9: Bruises -- Kakashi & Team 7
Something was wrong with his kids. That much, he knew for certain. Naruto was quieter than usual. Sasuke looked like he hadn't been sleeping. And last, but certainly not least, was Sakura. Kakashi’s unexpected problem child.
Day 10: Blow to the Head | Slurred Words -- Iruka (developing Iruka/Kakashi)
Day 11: Loneliness | "Leave no trace behind, like you don't even exist." -- Sakura (a Sakura/Sasuke breakup fic)
The house was empty when Sakura came home, not that she’d really expected anything different. Three years of sporadic visits—sometimes with months in between—had taught her better than to hope Sasuke would be waiting for her.
Day 12: Starvation -- Naruto & Team 7
Day 13: Familial Curse | Multiple Whumpees -- Itachi (ft. Sasuke, Shisui, Uchiha Clan, and Kisame/Itachi)
You are condemned to destroy all that you love, the curse promised. And Itachi loved Sasuke the most.
Day 14: Left for Dead -- Sakura (pre-Sakura/Itachi)
Day 15: Childhood Trauma | Moment of Clarity | "I did good, right?" -- Naruto (Naruto/Sasuke)
Day 16: Swamp | Wound Cleaning | "No, I can't feel anything." -- Sakura (Sakura/Shikamaru)
Day 17: Nowhere Else to Go -- Madara/Tobirama (ft. Deity Tobirama)
Day 18: "I see what is mine and take it." -- Madara/Tobirama
Day 19: Blood Trail | Abandoned Cabin -- Kakashi (Kakashi/Zabuza)
Day 20: Emotional Angst | Shoulder to Cry On | "It's not your fault." -- Sakura & Hinata (pre-Sakura/Hinata)
Day 21: Body Horror -- Shikamaru (Shikamaru/Naruto)
Day 22: Bleeding Through Bandages | Reopened Wounds | "Oh, that's not good." -- Kakashi & Team 7
Day 23: Forced Choice | "I'm doing this for you." -- Tobirama & Hashirama (pre-Madara/Tobirama)
“If there’s ever to be peace, this is the cost—” “I’m not doing this for peace,” Tobirama spat. “I’m doing this for you. Because you are my brother, and you could ask for anything and I would give it. Even if it kills me.”
Day 24: Collapsed Building -- Sakura & Ino (pre-Sakura/Ino)
Day 25: "It's for your own good." -- Sakura & Sasori (hints of Sakura/Sasori)
Day 26: Nightmares -- Madara (established Madara/Tobirama)
Day 27: Muzzled -- Kakashi & Obito (fucked up Kakashi/Obito)
Day 28: Denial -- Naruto (ft. Iruka)
Day 29: Fatigue | Burnout -- Kakashi (soft Kakashi/Gai)
His vision blurred again, and this time, instead of fighting it, Kakashi let the dark creep in. He fell into nothingness, and he did not feel where he landed.
Day 30: Hospital Bed | Holding Back Tears -- Sakura & Kakashi-sensei (ft. hints of Team 7)
Sakura didn’t like the fuzzy, numb, cold feeling that the drugs gave her, but she wasn’t eager to feel the pain either. She’d already cried over just the anticipation of it. Or maybe that was the shock of finding out she’d lost an arm and an eye. Maybe it was the anger and the grief and the fear coming out all at once.
Day 31: Asking for Help -- Naruto/Sasuke
“There’s a problem. A really, really, really big problem.” Sasuke narrowed his eyes. With Naruto, a really big problem could be anything from Irchiraku Ramen changing their operating hours to an international diplomatic snafu that was about to launch them into another world war. He gave it about 60-40 odds, favoring the former.
#naruto#fanfic#whumptober2024#I will be continuing to update this list with more excerpts as I write#I am running behind quite a bit because an injury has seriously slowed me down#but I'll be writing more and updating soon

For the AU request...Kakashi/Iruka and Akatsuki! Kakashi???
Also congrats on the follower count, that's amazing 🥳🎉💕
This took me a lot longer to finish than I thought it would, so I'm sorry for that, but here we go! I focused a bit more on their love affair here because I thought it would be fun <3 <3 <3
NSFW IS UNDER THE CUT!!!!
Akatsuki Kakashi AU (KakaIru)
Iruka’s Life
Becoming an Academy Sensei is the best decision Iruka has ever made in his life. The work can be hard and the students get out of hand on a regular basis, but it’s a lot more fulfilling than being a field shinobi. He feels like he’s making a real difference.
None of this changes the fact that Iruka can’t get his mind off of that last mission. The bodies of his two teammates haunt him, but they’re not nearly as bad as the voice in his ear.
Hatake Kakashi is a man Iruka hears a lot about. Whether he’s asking questions or just overhearing gossip, there’s always something that catches his ear.
Tales of the ruthless murderer. The man who had once used his skills to protect Konoha, but has since turned his back on his village and begun murdering the shinobi he once called allies.
Some of the stories terrify Iruka, largely because they bring back memories to what Kakashi had done to his teammates. How he’d taken their lives without hesitation or remorse.
Other stories intrigue Iruka. The stories are said in whispered tones when the speaker is certain there’s no one listening in. They tell of a man who lost so much. Who kept giving to the village not just in effort and blood, but in friends.
They whisper of the man Kakashi once was. The shinobi lost his father at the young age of five, a pain that Iruka himself can understand. They tell of the boy who failed to save his first teammate, killed his second teammate for the good of the village, and lost his Sensei in the Kyubbi’s attack.
Iruka never hears enough of these stories. Either someone shushes the person telling them, or the world around him becomes too loud for him to hear. It always feels like something is missing. As if there’s information that the people of Konoha don’t know or refuse to say.
At first, Iruka doesn’t know who to turn to. If he asks the wrong questions he could get into trouble, but there’s a voice in the back of his head begging him to ask. To search out the answers he so desperately needs to understand the man who killed his teammates but chose to leave him alive.
Then one day he happens to be passing one of the training fields and spots Maito Gai doing his daily work out and it hits him. If there’s anyone in the village who would be willing to provide him with answers, it’s Gai.
Iruka gathers up his courage, takes a deep breath, and heads straight for Gai.
He doesn’t even need to ask. As soon as Gai spots him he smiles and says “You’re here about him, aren’t you?” and they both know who it is Gai’s talking about. So, Iruka just nods his head, a little ashamed that he has been called out so easily.
Gai’s not like the others, though. He holds no judgement towards Iruka for seeking out answers. If anything, he understands Iruka better than anyone else. His feelings for Kakashi may be platonic, but they’re not less powerful.
When he speaks of Kakashi, Iruka can hear love in his voice. A fondness of the man that he had once called ‘Rival’, and a sorrow that drips into his voice whenever he’s forced to remember what has become of that man.
Iruka asks all of the questions running through his mind, and Gai answers as best as he can. They’re not always the most helpful answers, and Gai certainly doesn’t hold all of them, but it’s enough to give Iruka a better understanding of the man who simply won’t leave his mind.
The thing Iruka knows above all else is that he cannot allow anyone else to know his interest in Kakashi. There are so many people in the village who hate him, and for good reason. Iruka’s not even sure why he’s so obsessed with a man he has only met once.
All he knows is that he can’t get his mind off of Hatake, and that fact cannot be discovered by anyone. So, he gets good at lying. To the people around him and to himself.
Pretending that he doesn’t daydream of that intoxicating smile, or those confident, strong hands.
There’s one good thing that Iruka gets out of all this. Gai.
The two of them have always gotten along well enough, but having something new to bond over brings them closer. Pretty soon Iruka finds himself spending more and more time with Gai. They don’t always talk about Kakashi, but even if they do it doesn’t ruin their cheerful mood.
Iruka gets to hear all sorts of stories about the man from his best friend. Stories that no one else tells because they have either chosen to forget them or they never had access to them.
He hears about all of the competitions that Kakashi and Gai had in their childhood, the days they would spend sitting side by side watching the sunset just enjoying each other’s company. He even hears about the things that haunt his memories.
That smile was so soft and kind but full of sadness. Gai talks about it a lot with a fondness in his voice, and he’s always smiling a little bit brighter just thinking of the friend he has lost.
His laughter. A sound Iruka hasn’t heard much of, but which sounds absolutely intoxicating when Gai tells him about it. Iruka thinks if he ever had the chance to hear that laugh, he might just melt in his spot.
The kindness. Gai always tells him about Kakashi’s kindness with a sad look in his eyes, but that sadness never stops him from telling the best stories of days long since gone, and Iruka can’t help but listen. Clinging to every word Gai says.
Sometimes Iruka wonders if he could ever meet the man Gai missed so much. The kind, dorky friend that Gai still missed. Is that man still around, or has Hatake buried him under grief and anger? If they were to meet again, would Iruka ever hear that laugh that Gai speaks so fondly of?
He’d never admit it out loud, but sometimes he hopes he has the opportunity to meet Kakashi again. If only because he wants to know if it’s possible the man Gai misses so much is still there.
Kakashi’s Life
Where Iruka feels as though he has to hide his interest in Kakashi, no such restrictions exist for Kakashi.
His job in the Akatsuki is different from the others. Instead of chasing after Jinchuriki, he focuses on gathering intel about the five great shinobi villages and wrecking as much havoc as possible to cover the other's tracks.
He’s also the only Akatsuki member who doesn’t have a partner. Pein tried to give him one a few times but it never worked out. Kakashi simply refused to do teamwork with people whom he didn’t care about and who he couldn’t trust to watch his back.
Because of this Kakashi spends most of his time alone. Tobi and Pein check in on him once in a while, but mostly he gets missions, carries them out, and then sends the intel to Pein before relaxing and enjoying some quiet before the next mission arrives.
Sometimes Tobi shows up to taunt him about his ‘crush’ but Kakashi usually chases him off with harsh words and a reminder to keep focused on his job instead of bothering him. It never stops the man from appearing at his side randomly, but Kakashi never gives him the answers he’s digging for.
Whatever he’s feeling for Konoha Shinobi is between him and the universe. Tobi doesn’t need to hear about it no matter how many times he begs Kakashi to tell him.
Pein has also made comments about the ‘Konoha Shinobi who seems to be distracting you’ but unlike Tobi, he doesn’t push. All he ever has to say is a reminder for Kakashi to keep focused on their goals, and a new mission to keep his mind occupied.
This leaves him with a lot of time on his own, and while he does try to occupy his mind with books most of the time it’s not always successful.
Before meeting Iruka, Kakashi didn’t think too much. Sometimes he’d dwell on all of the people he lost and the friends he left behind in Konoha. Particularly he’d mourn over the fact that he’d left Gai, the only living friend he had left, behind in a village that would sooner see him dead than recognize his talent.
After, though, Kakashi finds it almost impossible to think of anything other than Iruka. The way he’d stood there in defiance of him, even when he’d murdered his teammates in cold blood. How he’d stood there staring at Kakashi with fear in his eyes, but also kindness.
Kakashi scoffs at himself for thinking it, but no matter how often he tells himself he was seeing things he simply can’t forget it.
There was kindness in those eyes and it intrigues him. This leaves him with questions about the man who would dare to look at a monster in such a way.
Kakashi does everything he can to forget Iruka.
He takes more missions. Dives straight into the nuclear option and tries to do increasingly difficult jobs that he hopes will lead to his death. It never does though.
For two years he throws himself into his work. Sometimes it works for the Akatsuki, and sometimes it's just fighting he decides to pick against nobody shinobi's he sees passing by while he's trying to relax.
It's always for the same reason. To get Iruka off of his mind. To convince himself that he doesn't deserve to think of someone like Iruka.
How could a monster ever be loved by someone so soft? How can a Nukenin expect to be thought about by someone so loyal to his village?
He always succeeds, though, and in the end, he's left feeling a little emptier and thinking even more of the man he meet over two years ago.
Unable to get Iruka off of his mind, Kakashi decides to take a direct approach to his issue. The next time Pein wants some information on Konoha he opts for stealth instead of the direct approach.
Donning his Sukea disguise, which he has used many times over the years in multiple villages, he heads into Konoha.
It doesn’t take him long to find that familiar face, though he struggles to see so many other faces he knows. He’s only thankful that Gai is gone on a mission during his visit because after all these years he’s not really sure how he’d handle seeing his friend's face again.
Once he finds Iruka though, everyone else ceases to matter.
Deep inside the village, in the academy field surrounded by kids, stands the man who has plagued his mind for months. The only Konoha shinobi he has allowed to walk away from an encounter with him.
Umino Iruka.
He found his name quickly enough in the village’s files and vanished just before the third Hokage arrived. His file is small, and there are no big impressive feats he has accomplished, yet Kakashi finds himself even more intrigued by the man.
With a name and more information, Kakashi heads out to accomplish his next goal. Approaching Iruka.
Together
Sukea is a great disguise. With a quick explanation of his history as a photographer, and a little bit of flirting, Kakashi wiggles his way into the academy area to explore and take some pictures ‘for a local newspaper coming out
Once he’s in, it’s easy enough to get to Iruka. He’s right in the field teaching his Taijutsu. Immediately Kakashi can see that the man is in his element.
During their last encounter, Iruka had been unsure of himself. He’d paused and faltered at all the wrong times, allowing Kakashi to get what he needed without having to kill him. There were of course some sharp words, but that was the first thing that had drawn Kakashi to him.
Here, with students surrounding him, Iruka looks happy.
For a second Kakashi allows himself to get lost in Iruka’s face. To forget about his job, who he is, and everything he had done, for just a few precious moments as he watches Iruka guide his students through the steps.
He almost regrets leaving the village. If he had stayed, he might have met Iruka under better circumstances. Been able to actually have a life with him.
Those thoughts are quickly expelled from his mind. Kakashi has made his decisions and he’s not particularly sorry about them. He has regrets, but he’ll never feel bad for leaving a corrupt system behind. A system that would set him up for failure, and his friend up for an early death, and then turn around and blame it all on him.
Iruka may be stunning to look at, but he’s not worth returning to the system that cost Tenzo his life.
So Kakashi will have to make do with what he can have.
Putting on his best act, he approaches Iruka as Sukea the photographer. A harmless man with no ulterior motives.
The two of them hit it off immediately, though Kakashi can sense that Iruka’s on edge. The way he glances around them as if searching for someone.
Part of him wishes it was him Iruka was looking for, but he shoves that thought away quickly. Not only does Iruka have no reason to search for the man who killed his teammates, but Kakashi isn’t worth his attention. All he is is a murderer and he has come to accept that he’ll live a lonely life because of that.
That doesn’t stop him from letting Sukea have a little fun though. There’s flirting, compliments, and an offer to pay for lunch (which Kakashi can only do because he makes a habit of taking spare Ryo off of shinobi he has killed. They’re not using it.)
Kakashi thought he was coming to Konoha to get Iruka out of his systems. Have a little fun, explore a tiny bit, and be done with it.
He was so very wrong.
Hanging out with Iruka only makes his desire to be around him worse. Where he only had his imagination before, he now has genuine information about the man that feeds into every single one of his daydreams.
The only downside is having to see Gemma and some of the other people he would have once called friends. Hearing them laugh and cheer with Iruka as if any of them have the right. It leaves him burning with rage, knowing that all of them get to be here having fun while so many others are gone.
It’s unfair. He hates it, but there’s nothing he can do but chock back his anger and play the innocent photographer.
There will be a day when Konoha faces justice for everything it has done. Not just the elders and Lord third, but all of the shinobi who called Kakashi a monster while ignoring the deep corruption in their own village.
Now is not that day and they’re not who Kakashi came here for, so he ignores them. Focuses his energy on Iruka instead.
It doesn’t take much convincing to get Iruka away from them, which surprised him a little but he’s not going to question it.
With the suggestion of catching the sunset for a perfect picture, the two of them head out.
It’s only when they’re far away from each other’s that Kakashi finally relaxes, and as soon as he does Iruka turns to him and invites him over to his house. Something that he was not expecting at all.
The two of them don’t even make it in the front door before Iruka starts tearing at Sukea’s clothing, muttering something about needing to get someone off of his mind. Kakashi doesn’t need too many guesses to figure out who this person is that’s plaguing Iruka’s mind.
It seems the Acadamy Sensei is hooked on him after one meeting. A feeling that Kakashi knows all too well since he risked sneaking into Konoha to find him.
The two of them quickly fall into bed together, but before they get too far Kakashi pulls back and tells Iruka he needs to let him in on a secret. See, murder is fine with Kakashi. Konoha trained him to be a murderer after all, but he’d rather Iruka know what he’s getting himself into.
So, dropping his voice back to normal he leans in close and whispers into Iruka’s ear words that he knows Iruka will associate with ‘Hatake Kakashi’.
‘I like you’
They’re not words that only he has ever said, but he knows they’re the right ones to let Iruka know who he is, and its words.
As soon as Iruka hears those words he stops. His hands press against Kakashi’s chest, fingers curling into the green jacket he’s wearing.
Kakashi asks if he wants him to leave because he’s certainly not going to stick around to be captured and a chunin isn’t going to be able to stop him, but Iruka doesn’t answer.
Taking that as a hint, Kakashi begins to extract himself from Iruka’s grasp. Before he can though, those fingers curl even tighter into his jacket and pull him forward.
He’s not sure what to expect, but Oruka’s lips against his in a hot, passionate kiss is certainly not it.
After that, there’s no more hesitation. Kakashi happily falls into bed with Iruka and lives out every fantasy he has been silently daydreaming about for months.
After a passionate night together Kakashi makes a quick get away and leaves the village before anyone realizes he was ever there. With that night he figures everything is done. He has gotten his fill of Iruka, and explored all of the thoughts and ideas swimming around in his mind. He’s done.
He’s so very wrong.
Not even two days later and Kakashi’s already thinking of Iruka again. His mind is drawn to him like a magnet, always pulling him back. Returning to Konoha is too dangerous, so Kakashi sits back and waits for his opportunity. The perfect chance to swoop in and claim his prize.
Iruka, meanwhile, is having even more difficulties getting Kakashi off of his mind. He’s able to do his job and keep his friendships, but it feels like he’s thinking of the rogue ninja even more than he already was which should be impossible.
He knows he shouldn’t want to see Kakashi again. He should want nothing to do with the man who murders Konoha shinobi without worry or hesitation, but he can’t help it.
There’s something about him that draws Iruka to him. Whether it’s a sense of danger he wants to explore, or that kind heart that Gai still speaks about in hushed tones whenever they’re hanging out, he’s not quite sure.
Whatever it is, Iruka’s desperate for answers.
NSFW
Iruka tries everything he can to forget Kakashi, including sleeping with other people. He doesn’t limit himself on who he sleeps with, his only hope is that being with someone else will help him get his mind off of Kakashi.
It doesn’t work
No matter who Iruka falls into bed with, what position he’s in or how much he’s genuinely enjoying himself, he can’t help but think about Kakashi.
Kakashi’s skilled hands explore his body. Playing with his nips while he speaks right into his ear. That mouth on his neck left bruises that everyone will see the next day. Claiming Iruka as his.
He becomes accustomed to biting something, anything. It’s the only way he can think of to keep himself from moaning out Kakashi’s name.
Daydreams are the worst though. When Iruka’s alone with just his mind and maybe a toy or two. When there’s no one with him to hear the name he wants to call out when he’s cumming. That’s when he has the most fun.
His favourite thing to think of is Kakashi’s hands. How they’d pin him to the bed, or hold him tight against his body. Rough, worn hands run all over his body, playing with him while he moans and begs to be fucked.
Meanwhile, Kakashi’s off somewhere occupying himself with only his hands and his imagination. If that imagination happens to produce an image of a very naked and eager Iruka in front of him, he’s not complaining.
If Iruka’s daydreams are overwhelming, Kakashi’s are destroying him. With little else to keep his attention some days, Kakashi finds himself thinking about all of the things he could do to Iruka.
How he’d sink his teeth into tender, undamaged skin and lay his mark on the man for all to see.
He really loves thinking of the way Iruka might beg for him. Plead for him to show some mercy and fuck him after being teased for far too long.
None of those daydreams live up to reality.
The first time Kakashi lays his hands on Iruka he feels like he’s on fire. He’s desperately grabbing at Iruka as the two of them fumble to tear each other’s clothing off. Neither of them cares if some of that clothing doesn’t survive to see tomorrow.
Iruka thinks it will be hard and fast. It would make sense since they’re in the middle of the academy and Kakashi is a nukenin who would be targeted as soon as anyone saw him in the village but once again Kakashi surprises him. He takes his time, enjoying every inch of Iruka’s body that he can get his mouth on.
His tongue traces over Iruka’s thighs, tasting his skin as he lays against his desk panting.
Then, without any warning, Kakashi slips his mouth over his cock and starts sucking. Irukams hands fly into his hair, gripping at long silver strands and tugging each time he inches further down on his cock.
Iruka’s not sure how, but before he knows it Kakashi has deep-throated him. His nose is buried in Iruka’s groin and there isn’t a single coherent word leaving the academy sensei’s mouth anymore. He’s gone and he’s not sure he ever wants to come back.
Kakashi doesn’t let him cum down his throat unfortunately, which is a bit disappointing because Iruka was so damn close when he pulled back, but his disappointment quickly washes away when Kakashi asks for a bottle of lube.
He’ll never admit it, but Iruka has been carrying around a bottle for about a week in his weapon’s pouch. It seemed like a stupid idea when he first put it there, but now he’s glad he thought of it. As he points down to the pouch lying by Kakashi’s feet, he sees a smirk tugging across the man’s lips. A look that would send anyone else running for their lives, but which made Iruka’s cock twitch with excitement.
Iruka has been with a few people before. Mostly friends, but sometimes the odd civilian who’s the company he chose to keep for a single night. None of them compare to Kakashi.
Everything he does is calculated and slow.
He takes his time and has Iruka on edge from beginning to end, teasing him. Playing with him like a toy.
Iruka’s certain he would hate it with anyone else, but with Kakashi, it feels amazing.
By the time Kakashi’s cumming, Iruka’s overstimulated and desperate for release. He can feel Kakashi’s mouth on his neck, sharp teeth dragging across his skin and sinking into his shoulder when he finally cums.
It’s only when he’s done and has pulled out that Kakashi releases his grip on Iruka’s arms and gives him a sharp, firm order.
‘Jerk yourself off’
Iruka doesn’t pause to think about the order. Reaching down, he wraps a hand around his cock and starts stroking. Already ready to burst, he knows it won’t take long for him to cum.
It takes even less time than he thinks.
When Kakashi leans in close and attaches his mouth to his neck, sucking on the already tender skin, Iruka knows he’s done for.
He spills between them, decorating his chest with his release while Kakashi closes the distance between them and gently rocks his hips. Within seconds Iruka sees white and he’s pretty sure he has died and gone to paradise.
If this was how Kakashi killed everyone, he’s certain no one would be calling him a monster.
By the time he comes to, Kakashi’s gone. The only evidence of his presence was Iruka’s cum drying on his chest and a single piece of paper laying on his windowsill. A letter from his late-night lover.
It’s the only time the two are together like this. Kakashi never makes a second visit and Iruka’s left with little more than a memory to live off of. Sometimes he’ll clutch that letter in his hand while jerking himself off late at night, desperately clinging to those sweet tender moments he had shared with a killer.
The worst part, in Iruka’s mind, is he would gladly do it all again.
If he had to fight Kakashi to protect Naruto and his village he will, but at the same time if he has the option of falling into bed with the Nukenin he will do so without hesitation.
#KakaIru#Akatsuki Kakashi AU#Kakashi's desperate for affection#He knows and accepts that he's a monster#but someone was soft and looked cute#and now he's done for#meanwhile Iruka's struggling with the fact that he's absolutely gone for a Nukenin#he is not doing ok

Kakashi Is-
bet you didn't expect this one. thanks to a dear friend for giving me this idea on demand late at night. have some kakashi going on his first date in over a decade and realizing he's kind of a loser.
Kakashi PoV 1,167 Words - SFW Unnamed side character w/o gender, meandering internal monologue, procrastination, mentions of wanting a family
---
Kakashi is a legend. Or, at least that’s what he’s heard. From a thousand different mouths in a thousand different ways as they venerate their reluctant Hokage.
Kakashi is at peace. Or, at least he thinks he is. Retirement never looked good on him from the first day, and it only grows more ill-fitting as the days pass. Even as he dips back into the force of Konoha shinobi, there’s a quiet little ache that lingers when he rests his head for the evening, when the world grows too quiet to drown out thoughts that linger with stubborn resilience.
Kakashi is tired. Or, at least he’s supposed to be. A life spent running, fighting, learning, teaching, growing in different directions that might not have necessarily been the way he wanted to go? It’s enough to drive a man mad as middle age looms on the horizon. Frankly, Kakashi hadn’t been sure he’d make it this long. But he’d always been the stubborn sort, in his own way, and that single fact is what nags, and nags, and nags at him until he finally gives in.
Kakashi is… confused.
Confused not in a handful of small ways, but one large question mark comes into stark clarity when he really, truly sits down to gaze into the void of his unexplained ache, and it all but screams back at him the reason for its existence. It should have been obvious, but when your head is wrapped up in things that were, things that could have been, things that happened in the past you can’t quite let go of, you lose sight of what’s going on in the present.
Kakashi is lonely.
Sure, there are people around him that he knows would be there in a heartbeat. Gai, Naruto, Sakura… Sasuke, if he really needed it, which he decidedly does not, but the opportunity is there if he’s really in a pinch. But each one of those friendships lacks something that he’s caught on the wind before but never truly lets himself indulge in for fear of it consuming him.
And with great reluctance, not so unlike the way he approaches the hospital for his mandatory yearly examination as an active ninja, Kakashi steels himself and approaches the clerk of the book stand he haunts with hands in his pockets and an offer for dinner. And when there’s confusion in their eyes for a split second, Kakashi is well aware of what they’re unsure of - so he makes it clear.
“It would be a date, if you’re wondering.”
And to his surprise, they say yes.
Kakashi is panicked. Because said date is in a few hours, and he’s whittled away the day procrastinating getting himself presentable in favor of chewing his fingernails to the quick and rearranging his bookshelf in order of which ones brought him closest to tears. That lead to him rereading a few, just to verify his rankings, and now he’s red-eyed and staring himself down in the mirror.
Kakashi is aware that he looks like a train wreck. The mask only does so much, and the redness will go away by the time he’s meant to meet his potential paramour, but there’s still the matter of whether he should default to his uniform or at least ditch the vest. Should he comb his hair? Style it somehow?
It’s getting a little long, that much is for certain. A trim should fix things, certainly. Without his mask on, Kakashi is able to poke his tongue out in concentration as he works to line up the ends of his hair before using his shears to snip off just a single finger’s width from the very tip. It flutters down into his sink, ready for him to rinse it away and once again ignore the fact that doing this so often will cause problems for the plumbing.
A problem for another day, he supposes.
Okay. Wonderful. Looking sharp already. But this is his first date in… well over a decade. Sharp isn’t going to cut it. He needs to be a razor’s edge, absolutely irresistible. Unless this date doesn’t work out, then he doesn’t want to provide too much of a siren’s song, or he won’t be able to get rid of them.
Except he knows the clerk well enough at this point that he’d consider them loosely a friend. As friendly as one can get when selling porn to someone else, but that’s neither here nor there, Kakashi supposes. He’s made friends in weirder situations, and really, he counts it as a blessing that they’re well aware of his less-than-desirable literary consumption.
While standing in the middle of his apartment, it feels rather small. His bookshelf is in full view, displaying the fruits of his labor in perfectly aligned rows. Scratching his chin - freshly shaved, despite knowing full well the mask will stay on - Kakashi wonders if it’s in his best interest to hide some of the more lascivious ones to save face if he were to bring his date back here tonight.
And then he blinks slowly at shuriken-printed bedsheets on a twin bed, and he knows that if he’s tumbling into bed with the clerk tonight, it certainly won’t be here. Maybe it’s time to spring for a bigger place. Maybe with enough room for a partner, maybe some children-
Kakashi nips that thought process in the bud almost immediately. Even on a good day, he’s not interested in that sort of thing. But others are, and if he’s going to seriously make this foray into the dating scene - in his forties? Kakashi wants to laugh at himself - then he needs to take the wants and needs of his potential partner into consideration.
The likelihood of his date wanting a family is high, and while he’s not certain he’s father material, he could probably fake it for a while until it came naturally.
As he forgoes his vest and headband for the evening, Kakashi realizes that he has issues. Not for the first time in his life, but certainly not to this concerning degree where he hypothesizes a spouse and children when he hasn’t felt the touch of another in a romantic sense in ten years. The cart is in front of the horse, and it’s beginning to make its way down a steep incline. That’ll be a question for the second date, if his clerk is able to look past how much of a trainwreck he’s discovering himself to be and agree to go out again.
Save it, Kakashi chides himself as he pulls his shoes on, you’re making this weird. He truly is a lost cause if a bit of inadvertent celibacy is making his brain conjure images of a partner and children when he’s not even sure what his date’s favorite color is.
Later that evening, his date for the evening lifts their eyes to his hair and proclaims they’re rather fond of silver, and Kakashi decides that two children should be sufficient.

Continued from: For as long as he can remember, it's always been the two of them, back before either of them really knew what it was to be a ninja beyond the honor of it all. Rin was light in the otherwise dull wasteland of his childhood. "I'm sorry about how we... left things..." Obito scratches the back of his neck, "before I left." Like a coward he'd just up and reported for duty the next day, bearing the memories of the night before like a raw wound. "I hate fighting with you." He drops his duffel bag at the door and toes off his sandals, eyes flitting to Rin every few seconds as if she'll disappear. Every time he comes home he underestimates how good the feeling is, to be home, and how good it feels to have her welcoming him back, in his home. A home that he'd once considered leaving, when he'd been at his very lowest, under Madara's thumb. It'd been the thought of Kakashi and Rin that propelled him to run as fast as he could, and where he thought, in his tired despair, that he'd find them dead... he'd never been so happy to be wrong. "You're a sight for sore eyes after sharing a tent with Genma and Bakashi for a week straight." Obito digs into his pocket, pulling out a parcel from his vest. It was a small satchel, embroidered with wildflowers. "I... saw this and thought of you. I thought you could use this to carry some of your supplies while out on the field."
@spllledwlne
Obito was the first friend that Rin could remember making. Her care for him is what often led to her getting frustrated with him whenever they argued. She was pretty sure it was similar for him and knew that it was never his intention to hurt/worry her. Still, their last argument and him having just left for another mission without a word had stung quite a bit. Then, she couldn't even go to their former teammate to rant about the argument, since he was on the same mission. The last week had felt like one of the longest weeks that she ever experienced.
"I am too." The brunette sighed softly, knowing that she could never stay mad at her bff for long. She had already thought that she had lost him once and she never wanted to go through that pain again. Rin knew just how dangerous missions could get and the thought that the last thing she said to him could've been out of anger haunted her until he returned. "You don't like injured, so I guess that means that the mission was a success?"
"It's beautiful~" A soft smile formed on Rin's face. It certainly was a practical and thoughtful gift. "I think it'll hold some medical tools perfectly~" Of course, a part of her was tempted not to take it on missions so that it wouldn't get damaged, but that would take away from some of the thought he had behind it.
"It's great to see you~ It felt like that mission lasted forever." Especially when she had spent quite a few nights worried that she wouldn't see him again after that argument. "I did pick up some dango for you in case you were hungry." She had already set the container in his kitchen.

I watched naruto mostly for the characters (the main story sucked ass but the background story of how Team Minato/Sakumo/Madara/Zetsu fucked the entire timeline up is great :D)
what if I watch boruto for the characters
Hoki my beloved 🥰
I've only watched a few episodes (like ep 1, whatever the two Sukea episodes are, the one Ao dies in, the one Onoki dies in, and the one where Onoki is a little shit and refuses to go meet the other past and current kage for the kage summit. oh and whatever the episode is where Kakashi, Gai and Mirai are on holiday and Gai gets haunted by a ghost and then refuses to let Kakashi win tabble tennis even though he certainly won. oh and also the episode of a "sad dad who cant connect with his daughter".)
what if I watch boruto for Hoki only he is tiny
ik the basic plot of boruto (Otsutsuki attack and that's basically it) and it sucks from what I've seen but whatever
the clothes also suck I've pointed them out before, Sasuke looks like a fucking prisoner (from some bit i seen. ik he doesn't always wear that but still), who CHOOSES to wear that bro.

My personal favorite Non Human Headcanons for Hermitcraft Members and my reasons Why
bdouble0100 - Glare hybrid
Mossy boi
Hates caving
Best sleep schedule on the server
Cubfan135 - Vex Hybrid
ConVex
Genuinely that’s the main reason
Also the way he laughs when pulling of chaos? Perfection
DocM77 - Creeper centaur/Ram hybrid (+Cyborg)
I mean this one is just basically canon
I also just like the idea of keeping Creeper’s 4 legs
Hermits ride on his back constantly because they love him and he stronk
EthoSlab - Human a bit to the left
Is he human? Is he a cryptid? No one on the server really knows
He has a tendency to just appear
Maybe he just really is a Kakashi kinnie tho
FalseSymmetry - eagle avian
I’m a big fan of wings
And we’ve had Eagle themes two seasons now
GeminiTay - Reindeer hybrid
Antlers YesYes
GoodTimesWithScar - Vex Hybrid
ConVex pt 2 the electric boogaloo
Tbh I followed Vex!Scar before Vex!Cub
But they’re such a duo
Love it sm
Grian - Parrot avian/Watcher
I mean…Duh
IJevin - Slime hybrid
This one is also just technically canon
Just one wacky slimy dude
Joe Hills - just a dude a bit to the right
No one can confirm anything
But it’s just off enough where people think so
Somehow he’s gotten those outside of the server to think he’s the most normal
But everyone on the server knows that’s a lie
He’s just as chaotic as the rest of them, just goes about it a little different
Grian never will forget the Lava logged base of s6
Keralis - Eldritch Void Being
I just think it’s funny
I’ve seen it around a few times and I love it
He just looks like a little fella but in reality Papa K could absolutely rip apart any threat to his family
Mumbo Jumbo - Human a bit to the left
S6-8
I can’t bring myself to say full shape shifter because he’s got no control over it
But mans can have his mustache removed then smack his face against it and have it reattached.
He literally sold off his appearance in s7 because he needed diamonds
S8 tempts me to add in half Watcher bc Grian Soul Consumption, but truly only on occasion
Pearlescentmoon - Lunar Moth hybrid/Watcher
Moth!Pearl my beloved
Also me slapping Watcher/Listener lore on Evo members? Yes
Rendog - wolf hybrid/werewolf
He do be the diggity dog
Previously existing Wolf genes mixed with gained lycanthropy
Fantastic to the mind
Stressmonster101 - fae
She may or may not steal her friends names
But she certainly does pester her friends /affectionate
She feels like the type of person to steal things and only give them back after cute shiny gifts tbh
TangoTek - netherbased Dragon
I saw exactly one person write dragon!Tango and it’s been my brain rot ever since
Sure the nether doesn’t actually have fire dragons
But I love it
TinFoilChef - Herobrine
Literally just the man the myth the legend himself
The idea of this well known Minecraft cryptid joining the Hermits, liking them and sticking around is very endearing to me
Years of haunting servers and players being terrified when he popped up
To finding a group that adore seeing him when he emerges from his strip mines
XisumaVoid - Void Walker
Now this is a common one and I love it
Especially with the tag along of Void Eldritch Keralis
Xisuma the voidwalker admin who could survive the void if he chose to, but often doesn’t to keep an even playing field with his players
Love it
Zedaph - sheep hybrid
I’ve seen the fan arts
I love the fan arts
I’m a DSMP main at heart, give me Ram/sheep hybrids and I eat that up every time
ZombieCleo - Zombie
Also just canon
Sentient Zombie teacher who can scold grown men into actually sounding sorry? Chefs kiss
To any Hermits not on the list, I either straight up view them as “Just a dude” or I don’t know them well enough for the brain to assign them a hybrid/being. I was going down a real list of Hermit members so I promise they weren’t just forgotten 😂
Absolutely no one asked for this post but I provide it anyways because I was thinking about it, and also Lowkey wanted to write it out so I could remember it too lmao
#long post#hermitcraft#hermitblr#non human headcanons#my own opinions of course#like I’m no one to try and force anything on anyone#I just like non human Minecraft Characters#my own is an enderman hybrid so like#duh lmao#my post

Satoru will do anything to protect Kakashi's "innocence," and will predictably lose his mind when he realizes Nanami is interested in his big brother, no doubt. He'll go on and on about dramatic betrayals and his poor brother's "pure heart" and so on and so for. Satoru will do everything to stop whatever is going on between Kakashi and Nanami… until he figures out why Kakashi hasn't accepted Nanami's feelings. Kakashi's self-deprecation is next level, and if Satoru sees that the only reason Kakashi isn't with Nanami is that he thinks he doesn't deserve to be– well that just changes everything doesn't it.
Cue the worst interaction Kento has ever had with Gojo to date:
"You and Kakashi are getting married. No, don't say anything, I've already booked the venue. All the venues. You go make my brother a happy housewife or I will end you. You have in fitting in 20 mins."
Nanami: "What the fuck is going on right now?"
thoughts?
Hahahaha, did you somehow manage to get a hold of my WIP manuscript? (jokes)
Also leave it to me to take this seriously with angst mixed in ahhh Im sorry if youre looking for a jokish answer regarding this.
But yeah, Satoru’s brocon drama is predictable, maybe because he makes it so~ He will have a huge meltdown when (if) he finds out about Nanami’s feelings for Kakashi, and it will a glorious, destructive one.
But his brocon dramatic tendencies are also one of the ways Satoru use to look out for Kakashi, albeit blown up way out of proportions. Don’t get him wrong, his overprotective instincts are genuine and too much, but he knows, more than anyone, that Kakashi is far from innocent (well, in the mental context ahem ahem) from that time Kakashi told him of his past life, of all the memories that still haunt him, and the regrets he still felt about Obito and the what-ifs.
It was from this, that his protectiveness for Kakashi took root; that the reason why he wanted to protect Kakashi’s ‘innocence’, was because he didn’t want Kakashi to suffer anymore, especially from losing a beloved, close person.
However, Satoru would 100 percent act the way you described that he will if he finds out that about Kakashi’s self-depreciation holding him back from having other means of happiness; he knows Nanami, and he also knows Nanami is a genuinely good person who would take care of his brother to the best of his abilities and will never hurt him (also lmao that ‘happy housewife’ bit, yesss, Kakashi feeding and taking care of all the kids with Nanami, such a great happy picture), so Satoru is willing to...hold back on his overprotectiveness for this.
While Nanami does have honest feelings towards Kakashi, and when Gojo being Gojo and sprung that sudden ‘wedding trap’ on him, what does he do?
First, he’ll ask if Kakashi knows about this.
And if he doesn’t, and while this event certainly shows Gojo somewhat approve of Nanami being with Kakashi, Nanami outwardly rejects.
It is also from this perspective, that we can also see Nanami’s own boundaries. If the reason why Kakashi won’t pursue any relationship is because he feels like he doesn’t deserve it, then Nanami’s reason, as stated in the canonical databook and the mangaka’s own words, is that he does not want his spouse or significant other to be left alone *when* he inevitably dies, because Jujutsu sorcerers are most always, due for an early grave due to their dangerous line of work. Considering that in the fic, Nanami’s one of the few people who knows Kakashi’s true strength and abilities, then it naturally comes to him that Nanami might be the one who would die earlier than Kakashi. Hence, both of their reluctance despite the obvious pining.
Satoru is right when he thinks of Nanami never willing to hurt Kakashi, for the man is already thinking of preventing a future heartbreak when it comes to be.
#white foams and grey skies#bread x tangerine#gojo satoru#kakashi#nanami kento#welp theres angst#and pining#why do i do this every time#being jujutsu sorcerers is suffering

Could you give me some Sasukarin headcanons?
Oof, nonnie, you're gonna make me work here lol.
As Karin has not appeared in the Uni!AU and may not, we're going to go with the same set up for KibaHina and ShikaTema.
Two Canon!AU and one Wedding!AU headcanon. And I'm gonna warn you, these are not going to necessarily be as happy as the others lol. Or cathartic lol.
Consider yourself warned lol.
Canon!AU #1: Sasuke is a mess after the war put simply. His return to Konoha is fraught and he is very, very aware he is only still a free man because Naruto, Sakura and Kakashi are as important and well-liked as they are.
And that they somehow seem to think he deserves a second chance. Or a third or fourth, but who's counting.
It takes a long time for him to be comfortable back in the village and he does, once he's allowed to leave it again, which takes years, live for his time away from the place.
The only person he can stand to be around other than Naruto, Sakura and Kakashi, is Karin.
He likes Jugo and Suigetsu sure, but neither of them have any interest in settling in Konoha all that much so when they spot a chance to bolt, they do. They stay in contact of course, but it is a rare sight to see either of them in even Fire Country.
Not Karin though.
Karin moved into the surprisingly still standing Uchiha clan grounds with Sasuke immediately and after a metric tonne of awkward conversations and immensely emphatic apologies on Sasuke's part, Naruto yelling at him for his treatment of his 'cousin' was never-ending and baffling, they started to bond properly.
Sasuke should have expected it'd be Karin who finally got him to confront his demons. The boy is weak to people named Uzumaki after all.
Canon!AU #2: Karin's sensor abilities are attuned to Sasuke so well you could swear she knows where he is and how he's feeling at almost all times.
Within a certain range of course.
This can have some positive side effects, it certainly helps their later sex life for her to be able to sense how turned on he is by her. But it doesn't start with that.
No, it starts with his nightmares. And they are plentiful.
Sasuke remembers vividly everything that happened on the night of the Uchiha Massacre. He remembers everything Itachi did to him on subsequent confrontations and his brother's insane conspiracy theory leading him almost to destruction, also haunt him.
Learning his brother had just gone insane and wiped out their whole family and clan because he'd awoken some insanely powerful techniques after witnessing Shisui's suicide AND that his family were planning a coup that Danzo was instigating as an attempt to steal as many sharigans as possible ...
Well, as I said. Plentiful.
His nightmares were intense, and Karin felt all of them.
It got to the point that Karin couldn't sleep if Sasuke was, and so she decided to do something about it.
They tried everything they could think of that wasn't her leaving, which neither wanted, or Sasuke having to go to therapy, which one of them wanted but the other vehemently refused to.
Until one morning Sasuke woke up feeling more rested than normal and having not had a nightmare for the first time since the massacre.
He also felt the soft warmth of a body pressed into his back. He turned in the bed to find a soundly dozing Karin in her night clothes, arms loosely wrapped around him as she snored ... cutely?
Sasuke never had his bed to himself again.
Or a nightmare.
Wedding!AU: Sasuke's a bad person and a worse dad. He's currently sitting in prison for attempting to murder his older brother Itachi and has cut off complete contact with his family and Karin, Naruto's cousin, and the mother of his child.
He didn't even know Karin was pregnant when he went in and didn't find out until someone who'd known both Karin and Sasuke from their criminal past, got sent to the same prison, and asked him when was the last time he'd seen his son.
Sasuke brushed it off as the kid not being his and made several dickish and incorrect comments about Karin's sexual proclivities. But you better believe the dickhead scoured any social media he could to get all the info about his son when he had computer time.
The prison riot that he started the day he discovered his son's surname wasn't Uchiha lives in infamy. It's the worst Fire Country has ever had, even in the 'Blood Prison''s torrid history.
News reached Karin when some well-intentioned but woefully ill-informed prison administrator rang her to inform her that her husband was alive and recovering in the hospital wing of the prison, but it had been touch and go.
She could come visit him soon if she wanted. Bring the whole Uchiha family maybe? It might help with Sasuke's recovery.
Karin thanked the woman for her consideration and offer, but kindly informed her that her husband was in the pool in the back playing with their children.
And the Hozuki family would never be setting foot in Blood Prison. Ever.
This is where I remind you that I warned you one of them wouldn't be nice xD.
Thank you for asking though!

Someday you will be loved.
This is the shortest thing for KakaObi week and my last thing too ~ Thanks for following around this week.
I had the idea after listening to the song "Someday you will be loved" by Death Cab for Cutie.
Pairing: Hatake Kakashi / Uchiha Obito
1246 words.
No warnings. it clean.
Ao3 link [x]
For @kakaobiweek Day 6: Grave
In his moment of death, Obito lets his mind wander about how things could have been and how things will be.
"I love you" Obito wanted to say, but the words wouldn't quite come out. Not now, he thought, not now that he was dying, for real this time. The confession would only serve as another thing to haunt Kakashi and he already had enough ghosts following him. No, Obito did not say it, not now. Not ever.
From the core he felt himself disintegrating, slowly, as if seconds had become minutes, giving him time to think and reminisce, eyes fixed on Kakashi. His old friend stared at him, eyes wide in terror. Don't worry, Obito wanted to say, this is fine. It's not your fault.
Maybe Obito had always been a little in love with Kakashi, way back from when they were kids, a lifetime ago for him. Seeing him as a rival to watch with envy from the sidelines, a companion to work with, but not agree with, no other person as fascinating as Kakashi. They'd just been children in a war, emotions high, suppressed below the surface. Maybe he'd always loved them both- him and Rin- but Rin had been easier to admit.
No matter how hateful Obito had felt in all his years of crusade, the other lifetime he had lived, he could never kill Kakashi. He just couldn’t bring himself to do it. There had been opportunities, so many of them, but Obito had never had the heart. He was in love then too, probably, he thought, just a rage filled, maddening, desperate love that could ruin the best person. Ah, being an Uchiha was quite the experience.
He didn't want Kakashi to keep looking the way he did now, sad and desperate. It is ok that I'm going, Obito thought, as parts of him slowly disappeared, I have run my course. You have to stay, Kakashi, you have to live. You're not burned, you're not your past mistakes, you're good.
Kakashi needed to know that he wasn’t at fault for this. That Obito had decided all by himself to die for his friend’s future. That was how one loved another, making sure that they were happy, that they became the person they were supposed to be. Kakashi should love too, not the guilty, painful, sharp love he had felt for Obito and Rin so far, but pure, supportive, warm love. A part of Kakashi had to die for this to be possible, the part that was still attached to Obito.
Obito was sure that Kakashi had had many men and women back home in the village. Still did. A guy like him certainly. He didn't need Obitos love declaration to mess him up, he needed someone who stayed and loved him fully. Something Obito, even if he wasn't impaled and dying, could have never given him.
For a moment he dared to imagine the future they might have had together. Kakashi as Hokage and Obito right by his side, advising, supporting, always looking out for him. Sunshine in Konoha, a warmth at his heart that he hadn’t felt since he was a kid. Kakashi would lower his mask and kiss him. Like the tsukiyomi, just real.
The scenery in front of his eyes changed. The smiling faces turned into angry stares. His name a whisper on the lips of the people passing him. “He did it”, they mumbled, “He killed them all.” Cold again, sharp pain in his heart. No, he would never make Kakashi happy. He’d only bring more suffering. Kakashi needed to be free.
There would be someone who would love him the way he deserved, Obito thought with a smile. Maybe not immediately, but eventually it would happen. Kakashi wouldn't believe him if Obito had said it out loud, still he knew it was true. There was love in Kakashi's future and only death in Obito's - it stung in his heart but that was exactly how it was.
Kakashi deserved to live, to live happily and to love freely. Obito would always be with him, some way or another, coating him like a shield from misery and pain. He'd no longer be haunted, he'd be washed clean. Finally free to use his hands to hold another tight. A warrior retired, no longer a child soldier.
He’d never be alone, draped in admiration, friendship and love and Obito wanted it for him so badly that he knew he needed to go. Kakashi could only be himself if Obito left, if his ghost was no longer haunting him, if he’d die right here as a sacrifice, as the war hero he always pretended to be. Kakashi would be happy and Obito would support it from a distance. A far, far distance.
Obito searched his friend's face for details to remember, if one could even remember after dying. Kakashi had given his eye back to him, being freed from the curse of his name, his past that still followed him. It was better this way, Obito concluded, now Kakashi of the sharingan died with him and a new Kakashi had the opportunity to be born. Strong willed enough to show emotions. A worthy hokage for the village he loved so much.
All the years Obito had watched him go about his business, work through his trauma and ANBU, softening up at the sight of his students and then becoming a stern leader, ready to die for his convictions at any turn. Truth to be told, Obito knew Kakashi wouldn’t have minded dying right in this moment, dying right here with his old friend. He’d been ready to die from a young age.
But Obito knew better, he knew that Kakashi needed to stay. Now he could be happy. Meet someone that would assure him with soft touches and good words. Lie next to him at nights and hold him when the nightmares come. Soon Obito would just be a faint memory in Kakashi’s mind, a person of the past, someone to remember on birthdays and death anniversaries.
He couldn’t say the words of love out loud. There were other things to say, support to express, but maybe Kakashi knew anyway. Maybe the way Obito looked at him said enough. He would always be watching. Just like Rin had. They would both cheer for Kakashi from the sidelines.
Obito knew it was time, that even the longest seconds must end eventually. He turned to say some words to Naruto, the boy who was so much like he had been all those years ago. In vain he had tried to heal Obito with his strange powers and was failing outwardly, in truth, Naruto had healed him, just not visibly.
There was a weird ease in his heart, as if all his open wounds had been closed by a soft hand with stitches. Half of him was gone, flying through the air like cherry petals in springtime. Obito smiled to himself. He always loved the spring, how nice to see it one more time. With each loosened piece he felt lighter, more free. It was time to go.
He turned back to Kakashi, eyes locked on the greys he knew so well. Don't cry, Obito wanted to say, reach out his arm and touch him. It's fine. You deserve more, you deserve better. He smiled and could feel a growing warmth in his now non existent chest. I'm glad it was you, Obito thought, I'm glad you were the one I loved. Now go and love too, Kakashi.
Then there was nothing but dust.

instead of what i wanted to write, i wrote "ItaSaku but it's Sasuke's POV"
non-massacre AU so Sasuke is slightly less of an asshole and Itachi is running around terrorizing Konoha ninja but like in a "he's on our side" way. ~800 words
Being the younger brother of Uchiha Itachi, in Sasuke’s opinion, wasn’t nearly as bad as he’d thought it would be. Itachi was an obsessive control freak who turned his attention on Sasuke more than Sasuke wanted, sure, but that came with the security that Itachi did in fact love him very much, under all his Itachi-ness. There had been a few years where Sasuke had thought he was going to drown in all the comparisons to his brother, but he’d spent his teenage years very determinedly carving his own path as a shinobi. No one compared your technique to Itachi’s Great Fireball Jutsu if your technique was stabbing that person with an electrified sword.
No, nowadays when people wanted to talk to Sasuke about Itachi, more often than not…
“WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOUR BROTHER?!”
...it went like that.
Sasuke didn’t question how Sakura found him. He was a creature of habit, and this was his favorite training ground for his off-days.
Sakura turned on her heel and furiously kicked at the tree Sasuke wasn’t sitting under, and its trunk exploded into splinters. Sasuke shifted to guard his bento from the rain of wood chips and leaf debris that flew into the air as the tree fell over with a deafening crack. Couldn’t Sakura have waited until after his lunch break to do this?
Chest heaving with fury, Sakura picked up a boulder and tossed it at the remains of the tree. Sasuke watched dully as she ripped up the training ground, screaming at him about how his brother was an asshole between acts of destruction.
Sasuke had certainly watched someone have a meltdown about Itachi’s more… eccentric qualities before, and he’d seen Sakura get so pissed about something she took it out on a training ground. Or a client’s house. Or Naruto. Or Kakashi or even occasionally Sasuke.
He’d never seen the merger of these two events, though. He hadn’t known Sakura and Itachi knew each other.
When Sakura had calmed down and Sasuke had finished his bento, he stood and stretched lazily. Sakura stood in front of him, panting and sweaty and with an impressive tick in her eye.
“What’d he do now?” Sasuke asked.
“He’s been drafting me for his fucking ANBU team,” Sakura hissed.
Ah… yes, that would do it. Sasuke had run exactly two missions under Itachi’s command, and they still haunted him. Itachi pushed his teams harder than anyone Sasuke had even heard of, and he didn’t take feedback well. He didn’t even take feedback from his own cute little brother. He didn’t even take feedback on how much soy sauce should go into dinner. I know how I like it, Itachi would say, and then make the worst food known to man.
(Fortunately for his ANBU team, he was almost always right about ninja stuff. It was just infuriating that his awful methods were so effective.)
The threat of having Itachi as a captain was one of the major reasons Sasuke lost interest in joining ANBU himself. As a rank-and-file jounin, he was highly unlikely to get drafted into ANBU.
Medics, on the other hand, were constantly getting drafted into ANBU. They were important for mission completion and their presence made general survivorship of a team skyrocket. Not to mention accomplished combat medics were hard to come by.
“Well…” Sasuke said slowly, “you are one of the best.”
He’d hoped that would help Sakura calm down. Usually she’d preen when he complimented her skills. Instead, she gives him an absolutely acidic look.
“Yeah?” she says, her voice like poisoned honey. “So if you were my captain, Sasuke-kun, do you think you’d listen to me? Don’t you think you’d listen the the medical advice of the top medic you went out of your way to draft--”
The ground cracks under Sakura’s feet as she starts ranting again, pacing in a tight circle in front of Sasuke. Even through her anger, she’s careful not to slip any details that might clue Sasuke into the nature of the missions they’re doing, but he gets the gist.
Itachi is an unstoppable force. Sakura is an immovable object. Really, it was no wonder they clashed.
Well, Sasuke certainly doesn’t want to get involved. Especially when he has to live with one of the parties. Still, he doesn’t exactly like seeing Sakura upset…
“Do you want to spar?” he asks. He’s not really good with comforting words, but he is excellent at helping people work their feelings out with violence.
Sakura absolutely destroys the already partially decimated training ground, and Sasuke’s going to have to find a new one until maintenance patches it up.
Sakura seems happier, with her hair all in a wild pink haystack and blood running from her temple. She heals the cut to her face with a few blinks and an extraordinary display of chakra control, all while forlornly poking a finger through one of several singed holes in her shirt, courtesy of Sasuke. She’s bright-eyed and chatty while she fixes up Sasuke’s cracked rib.
It does not last long.

Kakashi has so many doubts when he learns the truth about Itachi.
He learns about Shisui’s suicide. Now, Kakashi never believed for a second that Itachi killed his cousin, but hearing how it happened, how Itachi saw Shisui fall to his death in that moment, his cousin’s eye still clutched in his hand he can’t help but try to remember if there were any signs of what Itachi was going through. Any small changes in the boy’s body language that Kakashi should have picked up on. Surely there must have been something and if only he’d been able to recognize it then, to see past his own pain to see the kind of grief that Itachi was forced to swallow down, maybe he could have done something.
And of course he knew Danzo was no good, but if only he’d looked harder, pressed Hiruzen more when the whole deal with Tenzo came to light. After all, Danzo had tried to orchestrate an attack on the Hokage, couldn’t Kakashi have made a bigger deal of that, pushed Hiruzen to actually take action against Danzo for his crimes against the leaf? And surely there must have been clues that Danzo was behind Shisui’s suicide. Something he could have picked up on, something he could have brought to the Jonin council and the elders to make them see Danzo for what he was.
He learns of Itachi’s illness, an illness that ravaged his body, the pain he must have been in for so many years. Had Itachi always been sick? Certainly he wasn’t the sturdiest child, but Kakashi finds himself racking his brain, trying to remember if he’d ever seen Itachi coughing, if his exhaustion after missions was worse than his teammates. Had he brushed off the bags under Itachi’s eyes too easily? Surely he couldn’t have noticed, and yet he blames himself for not seeing it.
Kakashi is one of a few people who regularly visit the memorial that Sasuke constructs for his brother. And every time he goes back, he can’t help but wonder if there was something he could have done differently to change the fate Itachi faced.
“Why?” The question is a whisper on his lips. A question he knows will never be answered. Why didn’t Itachi come to him. Why didn’t he tell Kakashi when he started getting sick? Why didn’t he come to Kakashi when Danzo told him to massacre his clan? Why did he bear the weight of Shisui’s death alone in silence?
When Sasuke and Sakura announce the name of their second child, a pink haired, green eyed boy, Kakashi is actually hesitant to become attached to the child. He can’t help but remember the infant’s namesake. He’s terrified that he will fail this child the same way he failed Sasuke’s older brother. But eventually he visits and he holds the baby while Sakura cooks and Kakashi’s fears start to fade. He knows that the village is changing for the better. That the world this Itachi was born into is not the same as the one his predecessor gave his life for.
He enjoys babysitting little Itachi. The boy is far less trouble than his father ever was. He’s a quiet baby and when he starts to get older he is gentle and curious and will sit beside Kakashi and ask questions about anything that catches his attention.
Until the day that Itachi calls him hound. Kakashi freezes, green eyes looking up at him with something that Kakashi can’t name but that chills him down to his core. This boy shouldn’t know that name. This boy never had dealings with hound. Baby Itachi calling him Taicho was one thing. He figured that he must have picked it up from one of his students or something. But in that moment the world flips on its head.
Because the only thing that Kakashi can think about any time he sees little baby Itachi is that one day he might be able to get the answer to the question that’s haunted him for so long. Why, Itachi?

😵💫
Everything around you was spinning. The effects of all that sake finally sinking in and making it impossible for you to take a step forward without feeling like you were going to fall over, or vomit.
You weren’t really sure which one was worse.
“Come on,” an arm settled against you back, but before you can look to see whose standing there at your side another arm sweeps behind your knees and lifts you off of the ground.
If the world wasn’t already spinning, it certainly was now.
“You drank too much,” laughter rang through the air. A sweet sound for your ears after a night in a crowded restaurant surrounded by far too many people. “Trying to escape reality?”
“Just Asuma,” you defend yourself, allowing your head to drop against your saviors chest while you’re carried forward. “Too chatty.”
More laughter.
Even with the pounding headache looming in the back of your head, threatening to take over and make your life miserable for the next three days, you couldn’t help but smile at that sound.
It’s like a gift from the world, just for you.
No one else was being blessed with this sweet sound. At least, you hoped they weren’t.
You wanted it all to yourself.
“You should have said no after the second cup of sake,” his arms curl around you, holding you a little tighter against his body. “You’re a light weight.”
“Not as bad a tenzo,” you sing his name, giggling when you recall how he had collapsed into Kakashi’s lap after his first drink. “Besides, if i were sober you couldn’t carry me.”
“Mmm, that’s true,” resting your head against his chest, you listen. The thump of his heartbeat drumming against your ear. “But surely you could have had a little restraint.”
“You should know better,” usually you’d flick his nose and smile up at him, but you were too tired. Exhausted from a night of drinking and dancing with Konoha’s beautiful green beast. “And since when are you the responsible one?”
More laughter. You wonder if there’s any way to record that sound.
To play it whenever you’re alone and missing him.
“Someone has to be responsible,” he reminds you, pressing a gentle kiss against your forehead. “Otherwise you’d drink yourself into a ditch.”
“Mmm, never going to happen,” it would be a funny sight, and Kakashi would no doubt take pictures to haunt you with for the rest of your life, but you knew the chances of that outcome was slim. “As long as Maito Gai exists, I’ll always have someone to carry me home.”
“You’re correct,” another kiss, this time lightly placed against your nose. “I’ll always bring you home.”
Home.
That sounded nice.
“But Gai,” you tilt your head back and smile up at him. “I’m already home.”
It was cheesy and dumb, but so very worth it to see the way Gai’s eyes widened with surprise. “You-“
“Home,” you whispered, settling back against his chest and closing your eyes. “Is in the local hunks arms.”
